Time for another Instagram Builders Challenge! The challenge was based off of a set of plans that were released by DIY Huntress on how to make a DIY desk. For the challenge, we could either decide to build the exact same desk from the plans or put our own spin on it! There were so many great entries and they separated them into two categories: one for beginners and one for more advanced builders.

To give you a quick idea of what we were dealing with, here is an overview of the build dimensions that the challenge was based off of:
This was the first desk build I was going to do, so I didn't want to stray too far from the plans that were provided to us (leading me into submitting for the beginner category). I figured I could follow the plans to gain experience on desk building, while adding my own fun spin to the top of this desk! I've gotten into the habit of making several American Flag products as cutting boards and signs, and I thought what could be more fund than making a giant hardwood American Flag as a table top for my desk! I wanted this desk to be as sturdy as possible, while maintaining a pure wood feel, so I only applied natural wood stain to the frame to keep the pine look, while staying true to maple and red oak hard woods for the top. This ensured that the table top would be resistant to scratches and would be sturdy enough to allow several different types of work to be performed on top of the desk (whether I decided to use it for just video editing or make it a soldering station/work station).
